Objectivity: Independent Consulting

Objectivity is the whole reason Standard Valuations exists.  Standard Valuations, Inc. is an independent Performance Consulting firm, and it is an independence the firm has scrupulously maintained.  Standard Valuations is not a broker/dealer, does not manage money nor do we sell financial products or services.  Standard Valuations' only business is providing fund Trustees with independent Performance Consulting.

Over the years, as pension funds have grown, their consulting needs have grown as well.  Consulting companies have taken advantage of this, expanding revenues by moving into the lucrative fields of meaningless services and usurping Investment Manager responsibilities.  Independence and objectivity are lost when a Consultant endeavors to micro-manage a fund.  If the Consultant dominates the decision making process, totally controlling asset allocation and manager selection, the Consultant is no longer objective.  In many ways the Consultant is then measuring its own performance.  However, providing and presenting research for deliberation regarding asset allocation, number of managers needed, manager styles and manager selection is very helpful to Trustees.

Standard Valuations remains true to its original mission to serve Trustees in their responsibilities.  Some lucrative business may have been lost because of this, but our reward has been in the confidence and trust major Pension Funds have come to place in Standard Valuations.  Trustees know they can rely on Standard Valuations to provide a truly independent objective analysis on how their money management teams are performing as well as independent research and consulting.
