Dean Derby, the founder of Standard Valuations, began as a defensive back with the Pittsburgh Steelers!  It was in playing professional football that he developed an interest in analyzing statistics.  As the Steelers' defensive captain and defensive signal caller, he used statistics prodigiously to predict how the other team would play, and how to best counter their strategies by comparing past performance to show trends and probabilities.

Determination, hard work and commitment allowed him to lead the league in interceptions, and be awarded All Pro in 1959.  It is this same commitment to excellence that has made Standard Valuations, Inc. one of the leading innovators in the Consulting industry.

In the early 1970's Dean Derby was inspired by then Minnesota United States Senator Hubert Humphrey, a person always concerned for the welfare of Labor.  With the advent of ERISA Senator Humphrey expressed his concern that Pension Fund Trustees need independent consulting.  Most companies providing such services to Pension Funds at that time were also involved in managing money and selling services to Investment Managers.  Standard Valuations' approach continues to support the Trustees of Pension Funds by concentrating on serving them with integrity, researching the very best advice for the funds with absolutely no conflict of interest.

The inspiration caught on.  Over the years Standard Valuations has led the way in the growing Performance Measurement and Consulting industry.  It has done this by providing reports that are accurate, clearly stated and highly relevant for the Trustees charged with overseeing the funds.  By providing a service that is truly committed to excellence Standard Valuations now serves over 100 Pension Funds nation wide, including some of the largest public and Taft-Hartley funds in North America.
